UP FOR A CHALLENGE?
A new wave for Nature’s Spring Foundation, Inc.
Nature’s Spring Foundation Incorporated brings to you its first ever solution search competition and campaign which recognize, promote and adopt sustainable innovations on plastic waste management in schools and communities. The Bote Challenge is the foundation’s flagship initiative to contribute to the global movement of closing the loop on plastic pollution, creating a circular economy for plastic and fostering a culture of upcycling/recycling within communities.

A new wave for Nature’s Spring Foundation, Inc.
Recognize, promote, and adopt sustainable practices on proper plastic waste management through an annual search for a child-led, innovative solutions within communities that actively involves children and youth, women, community-based organizations, local governments, and other sectors in communities.
ULABS BALIK BATERYA PROGRAM
The Balik Baterya program is an initiative participated by Nature’s Spring Foundation, Inc. which addresses the harmful effects of Used Lead Acid Batteries (ULABS) to the environment by reprocessing and reusing ULABS thereby creating a financial resource to implement education and socio-economic projects in communities. The partnership with Oriental and Motolite Marketing Corporation and the Philippine Business for Social Progress commenced in 2018 when Nature’s Spring Foundation, Inc. teamed up with the Philippine Spring Water Resources Inc. in recycling the ULABS of the company and generate income which will be donated as proceeds for the community projects.
Through the dedicated efforts of its stakeholders, Nature’s Spring Foundation, Inc. was able to raise 366,000.00 worth of project funds out from the 12.4 tons of ULABS hauled from the four plants of PSWRI—Laguna Plant, Bulacan Plant, Cebu Plant and Davao Plant. With the total proceeds, NSFI together with PBSP will implement a scholarship program in 2020 to fund the education of an estimated 30 students coming from the underprivileged communities in the province of Cebu.
The full support of Nature’s Spring Foundation, Inc. and its stakeholders made it possible to seamlessly coordinate and implement projects that uplift communities together. Through the Balik Baterya Program, NSFI hopes not only to fund sustainable projects but also continually expand its reach in creating awareness in recycling Used Lead Acid Batteries, up to a household level.
In the next years to come, the Balik Baterya for NSFI will be available to individuals who are willing donate their ULABs in exchange for more developmental projects in communities.

REFORESTATION PROJECT
Recognizing its vital role in promoting environmental stewardship, Nature’s Spring Foundation, Inc. tirelessly commits to bring “adopt-a-watershed” projects at the forefront of its core programs in ensuring environmental sustainability for the country. At the very start of our operations, since 2018, we have partnered with a number of government and private entities in implementing forest reforestation projects.
On top of the list is our partnership with PBSP for the Reforestation Project. DISASTER RESPONSE PROJECT
In the data provided by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the El Nino phenomenon which affected Cebu from April to June 2019 was considered as the longest and worst in the last decade. The calamity posed a threat to farmers—crops damaged and livestock died from dehydration—especially in the southern part of Cebu. The PDRRMO of Cebu reported a total of 121 million pesos worth of damage to agricultural crops.
In response to the disaster caused by the calamity, Nature’s Spring Foundation, Inc. partnered with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to determine the municipalities which were greatly affected by El Nino. Farmers from far-flung areas in Boljoon and Alcoy were identified to be the most severely affected by the calamity, based from the data provided by the PDRRMO.
Through the assistance of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Boljoon, the foundation donated 1,020 Liters of Purified Drinking Water and 200 rainwater catchment drums to the farmers and other residents living in the far-flung areas.

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Nature’s Spring Foundation, Inc. recognizes the value of building a community of civic volunteers as one of the effective strategies in reinforcing behavior change in a society communities. Hence, the foundation has always placed volunteer activities at the forefront of its core—incessantly motivating and expanding its army of volunteers in the country.
WORLD WATER DAY 2019
The World Water Day is an annual, international celebration hosted by the United Nations which highlights water as an essential building block in creating jobs and supporting economic human development. We, at Nature’s Spring Foundation Incorporated, value the right of every person to access lean and safe water to communities, thus our initiative. In 2019, we organized a total of 300 volunteers and partnered with stakeholders in the town of Moalboal for the Safe Water Campaign and Clean-up Drive on March 23, 2019. The campaign aimed at engaging stakeholders on discussions related to how the environment affects water sources.
The foundation kicked off a dialogue with the students and teachers of Moalboal, LGU Moalboal, barangay officials and even resort owners and tourists on the effects of environmental degradation, including mismanagement of wastes, on clean and safe water. A quick clean-up at the coastal areas was then done after. The consolidated trash data was then submitted to the Ocean Conservancy, the nonprofit international group.

A total of 688 volunteers from the towns of Argao, Malabuyoc, Oslob, Tuburan and Tabogon which consists mostly of teach and students, local government officials, private business owners, employees from PSWRI and affiliate companies, and even tourists in the area. The international coastal clean-up is the largest volunteer activity for the environment conducted every 3rd Saturday of the month wherein people all over the world gather to clean coastlines and water bodies around the world and contribute to the international trash data from the Ocean Conservancy, reducing trash at source and change behavior that allow trash into the water at the first place.
