NSFI conducts its second Tree Growing Activity in Brgy. Magsaysay, Davao City on November 9, 2024 in partnership with the Magsaysay Marketing Cooperative and DENR Davao Region.
HThe Kick-off Tree Growing Activity marks the beginning of the month-long planting of the native, indigenous, and fruit tree species which will be planted in 10 hectares of forest land which is specifically within the Suawan-Kulafu Sub-watershed. Since 2023, NSFI has adopted a total of 20 hectares of forest land for reforestation in Davao City which is taken cared by our People’s Organization partner, the Magsaysay Marketing Cooperative.
The activity was joined by volunteers who are the employees of PSWRI Davao Plant, the officials of Barangay Magsaysay, the staff from LGU-CENRO of Davao City, the personnel from DENR Davao Region and CENRO Davao City, and the PO members of Magsaysay Marketing Cooperative.
The activity also provided an avenue for NSFI to raise awareness to the volunteers on the importance of Forest Conservation and Protection through the feedbacking session conducted after the planting. The partners of NSFI also shared their message of support and commitment to the conservation of these forests. Forester Victor Billiones, Assistant Regional Director of DENR Davao Region, further emphasized the crucial role of stakeholder engagement and community-based forest management in the continuous protection of the forests in Davao.
The series of tree growing activities is a sub-activity under the Watershed Area Transformation for Environmental Resilience (WATER) Reforestation Project. it aims to contribute on increasing the forest cover of watersheds in the country and strengthen community-based conservation and protection.
