Earthquake-Damaged Elderly Home Receives P500,000 Recovery Assistance from NSFI

TALISAY CITY, Cebu – Nature’s Spring Foundation Inc. (NSFI) turned over P500,000 in financial assistance to the Seven Sisters of Servants of Mary on October 15, 2025, to support recovery efforts following the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that devastated Northern Cebu.

The Seven Sisters of Mary Elderly Home, which houses abandoned elderly people, had to leave their building-type facility in Mohon after the earthquake left it totally damaged and unsafe for living. The elderly residents and the nuns who care for them were immediately evacuated as their lives were at high risk.

“Ang mga tigulang nagkaratol ratol,” said a representative from Seven Sisters, describing how the earthquake affected the elderly. One resident even had to be brought back after getting entangled in an electric fan during the chaos. They are now temporarily staying at the congregation’s other housing facility in Talisay, sharing a space with residents from another elderly home.

Three NSFI representatives delivered the assistance via check to help address the urgent housing needs caused by the disaster. The assistance was provided to help the organization address the urgent housing needs of its elderly beneficiaries.

The turnover was part of NSFI’s monitoring and documentation process to verify the recipient organization’s readiness to receive funds and ensure transparency in the distribution of relief assistance.

NSFI has been supporting Seven Sisters for nearly seven years. The organization received P110,000 in 2024 and an additional P120,000 for healthy aging programs. The partnership is part of NSFI’s broader commitment to elderly homes, with P3.4 million allocated to support all partner facilities nationwide in 2024 alone.

NSFI expressed its commitment to maintaining support for Seven Sisters to ensure continued services for the elderly in their care.###
